Polk County Fire District No.1 News
On August 16, 2025 Monmouth Police Department and Polk Fire team members responded to a cardiac arrest call for a 40-year-old man.
Police officers immediately began CPR, and when Polk Fire medica arrived, they worked side by side to deliver advance life support, including defibrillation, airway management, and medication.
Thanks to their fast action, teamwork, and expertise, the patient's heart restarted. Just three days later, he walked out of the hospital and returned home.
Surviving an out-of-hospital cardiacarrest is rare, but this outcome shows the power of training, teamwork, and dedication. We are incredibly proud of the Monmouth Police, WVCC dispatchers and Polk Fire crews who made this lifesaving difference.
